Original Pen & Ink Drawing 23 x 30 cm / 11.75 x 9"

Spending time in nature can makes us feel good. It can also have a positive impact on our well-being. As human-beings we have a biological need to connect with nature. This concept is known as biophilia. We each have our own unique way of making this connection. It can be anything from looking after indoor plants, gardening, feeding the birds , foraging for wild food, walking in green or blue spaces, picking up litter, sea–swimming, surfing, hiking or just sitting in a forest contemplating its surroundings. We know intuitively what works best for us. Being mindful when we are in nature increases the benefits we receive from it. Shifting our focus to our natural surroundings can provide us with temporary relief from the chatter of our minds. We feel more calm, soothed and spacious within. In Japan, connecting with nature mindfully in a forest is known as forest-bathing or shinrin-yoku. This is a common practice and is known for its emotional, physical and mental benefits. Allowing ourselves this time and space to connect with nature can help us re-align with our sense of self and our own natural rhythm. It can help us develop a deeper appreciation for nature and in turn we may find that one day we are ready to look after nature just as nature is always looking after us.

I drew this piece in my garden during the Summer.   In 2016  I  did a plant medicine workshop with Vivienne Campbell out in Denise Dunne's organic garden.  I have been learning little bits ever since through Vivienne's online course.  I spent the Summer of 2018 making my own teas, tinctures, syrups and more using wild plants from my garden - nettle, dandelion, daisy, cleaver and elderflower.  I enjoyed it so much and I know this painting came from all of this gorgeous plant energy I was drinking in.  Now I am looking forward to keep learning and connecting more with these incredible, beautiful, nourishing wild plants.

It is best to place this painting out of direct sunlight or a brightly lit room.
It is like a watercolour painting and needs to be protected from the light.   It has been varnished with a watercolour varnish for added protection.
