“A light exists in Spring

Not present on the year

At any other period

When March is scarcely here

A colour stands abroad

On solitary hills

That science cannot overtake,

But human nature feels…..”

From “A light exists in Spring” by Emily Dickinson

I drew this piece in the garden at twilight in the middle of January. This was my call to the light of Spring to come forth.  From the moment that the sun starts to rise north in the sky following the Winter solstice I watch and wait patiently for the Spring light to return.  I use an app called “Moon” (it tracks the phases of the Moon) which shows the changing times for sunrise and sunset each day. I track these changes that show minute shifts in the lengthening daylight. When Brigid’s day finally arrives I breathe a sigh of relief.  On this day it really feels that the light of Spring  has finally returned.
