Snail faery is a nature spirit who enjoys moving through life at a slow pace. She is nocturnal by nature. Travel-by-snail while simultaneously drinking tea is one of her favourite past-times.
Snail faery reminds us about the benefits of slowing down in our daily lives especially when we are going too fast and are not aware of it. Tripping over overselves in a rush to get through endless to-do lists and struggling to stay on top of everything in our lives is a good indicator that we might need to take a breath - a tiny pause. But this is never easy. We tell ourselves “I just have one more thing to do.……and then I will sit down and take a breath….”

This painting was inspired by a beautiful snail shell I came across at Bull Island nature reserve one morning. I walk in nature nearly every day. This is something I do to connect with nature and find my way back to my own rhythm. I work best when I take my time and go slow – but sometimes I succumb to overwhelm when I try to keep pace with the speed of everything going on around me. As I worked on this painting I started to realise that I probably made this piece as a reminder to myself to take a breath when it feels like everything is going too fast. Allowing myself to pause like this brings me back to the realisation that“everthing that needs to get done will get done.”If I can manage to hold myself in that space for long enough I notice that everything always gets done but in a very effortless way. And so I find myself on a never-ending journey of always moving back to “slow” and learning how to move through life just like snail faery.
