The Beech tree is known as “The Mother of the Woods”.  Beech is beautiful and elegant with high-arching branches.  She is sometimes referred to as  the “Beech Queen” whose consort is the Oak King. Beech is known for her generosity of spirit as she spreads her branches out into a broad canopy to protect those in need of shelter. She provides beech nuts as a valuable food source. Beech represents deep wisdom, the unknown and symbolizes the   end to something old and the start of something new.  She helps us relax and let go of fixed ideas so that we can move forward in trust and openess.   In tree folklore the Beech is known as the 'tree of wishes'. A fallen Beech branch is considered to be an invitation from the wishing fairies. People write on the branch and push the stick into the earth where the wish is  taken to the underworld for the Fairy Queen to consider.
