Dancing Pixies
Faery rings or faery circles can be found in places where faeries spend time dancing. Their love of dance is well known and faery rings are often visible as circles of mushrooms or dark circles of grass. Pixies are a type of faery found on the moorlands of Devon and Cornwall and they are especially fond of dancing. In general it is advised to keep clear of places that belong to the Fair Folk, especially after nightfall. They don’t like to be disturbed during their revels and are fiercely protective of places they consider theirs. As Lady Wilde wrote, it is best to leave them “in quiet possession of the rath and the hill and the ancient hawthorn trees that have been theirs from time immemorial and where they lead a joyous life with music and dance”.
