“…..What we call the beginning is often the end
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from……………
..........And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
Little Gidding, Four Quartets, T.S. Eliot

This piece was drawn at Knockroe Passage Tomb, Lingaun Valley, Co.Kilkenny. The Knockroe passage tomb has two separate passages that are aligned with the sun at the Winter Solstice (southeast with the rising sun and southwest with the setting sun). My dad has often mentioned this place to me (he's from Kilkenny) so I had always wanted to do a drawing here. In the distance you can see Slievenamon (Sliabh na mBan/ mountain of the women) which has a cairn on its summit. My Granny who was from Tipperary used to climb this mountain and she called it " her mountain". It's about an hours climb to the top with a beautiful view all around. I actually drew this piece at the time of the Autumn equinox and between one thing and another it took me from the equinox in 2021 to the equinox in 2022 to finish this piece. So it is a piece about cycles, journey, balance, beginnings and endings.
