This is Sí na Seamróige (Clover Fairy). She is also known as young clover fairy, yellow clover fairy and shamrock fairy depending on her mood. She has lots of different names because the word “seamróg” (i.e. seamair óg - young clover) refers to the tiny yellow clover plant that is usually used as shamrock on St. Patrick's day.
Lately this clover fairy has been busy sprinkling the earth with shamrock plants. One of her jobs in nature is to make sure that there is enough shamrock growing in March so people can wear it on Saint Patrick’s day.
From April onwards clover fairy concerns herself with planting, growing and nuturing other types of clover. She sows these seeds in fields, dunes and by the roadsides. Apart from yellow clover her other favourites are red and white clover. She loves to see their beautiful pink and white blossoms carpeting the earth in Summertime. It fills her with joy to hear the bumble bees buzzing as she watches them drink sweet clover nectar.
Sometimes this fairy goes a little bit rogue and sprinkles seeds in pristine, green lawns. She knows that perfectly green lawns hold little or no food for bees and other insects. She would like to remedy this and is wondering if you might think about planting a few clover seeds in your own lawn? Or, better still, you could throw a few seeds into a perfectly tidy green space in the hope that one day it will grow into a wilder place where once again all the tiny wild things can flourish.
